Journalism often involves discussing difficult events, tackling challenges, and pursuing the truth to tell stories that matter. This important work can be emotionally demanding and take a toll over time. Reflective practice and supervision are valuable tools used by psychologists and therapists to help process challenging experiences before they become overwhelming, and we believe they can be equally beneficial for you.
Becoming a supervisor requires knowledge, skill, and experience. It’s not counselling or training; it’s a focus on learning and growth. Effective supervision doesn’t happen overnight—it requires a deep understanding of the process, which comes from your own experience of being supervised. This first-hand experience is crucial for bringing real insight into your future supervisory sessions.
Being a supervisor also demands a commitment to regular supervision for yourself, reflecting on your impact on supervisees, in addition to your regular work, and addressing difficult situations to foster growth. It’s a role that requires ongoing professional development, ensuring your skills remain current and effective.
Below, we’ve outlined some of our introductory courses, along with the reflective practice and supervision options we offer to help you gain the experience you need on your journey to becoming a skilled supervisor
We’ll teach you what these practices are and how to engage with them effectively to enhance your well-being. While this course won't train you to supervise others, if you want it to, it can be the first step toward safely, competently, and confidently supporting your peers.
We can provide you with a facilitator or supervisor to give you practical experience in reflective practice and supervision. This can help you process the experiences of difficult and challenging work and is an important part of developing a deep understanding of supervision and reflective practice. We can provide group or individual sessions, either in person or remotely.
We offer dedicated support for journalists affected by the challenges of their work. Our team of qualified psychologists and therapists specializes in evidence-based, clinically recommended treatments, including EMDR and trauma-focused CBT.
We recognize that trauma is deeply connected to the language in which it is experienced. If you prefer therapy in a language other than English, we encourage you to reach out. Through our extensive associate network, we can provide therapy in a range of languages to better meet your needs.
